Justiss Elementary Students Learn Fire Safety During Fire Prevention Month

Students at Justiss Elementary School enjoyed an exciting and educational day with the Paris Fire Department as part of Fire Prevention Month. From visiting the fire station to getting an up-close look at fire trucks and firefighting equipment, students learned valuable lessons about fire safety and the important role firefighters play in keeping our community safe.
Kindergarten students took a field trip to the Paris Fire Station on North Main Street, where they had the opportunity to meet local firefighters, explore the station, and learn more about the equipment used during emergencies. One of the highlights of their visit was a demonstration of the department's new ladder truck, giving students an exciting look at how firefighters use specialized equipment to respond to emergencies.
Meanwhile, Paris firefighters brought a fire truck to Justiss Elementary for special presentations with first through fourth-grade students. Held in the school's parking lot, the presentations gave students an opportunity to see firefighting equipment up close while learning important fire prevention and safety lessons.
One of the most meaningful parts of both experiences was watching a firefighter put on full protective gear. Students learned what firefighters look and sound like when responding to a fire, helping them understand that even though the equipment may appear intimidating, the person inside is there to help. This important lesson encourages children not to be frightened or hide from firefighters during an emergency.
The hands-on experiences provided students with an opportunity to ask questions, interact with local firefighters, and gain a better understanding of fire safety in a fun and memorable way.
Paris ISD extends a special thank-you to the Paris Fire Department for taking the time to educate our students and for the dedication they show each day in protecting our community. Their willingness to connect with young students helps build trust, confidence, and an understanding of the importance of fire prevention.
Through experiences like these, Justiss Elementary students are learning that fire safety starts with knowledge, preparation, and knowing who to trust in an emergency.
