Paris ISD Celebrates Continued Success in VFW Voice of Democracy Contest

Paris Independent School District is proud to announce that Paris High School student Zahra Tapia has earned additional honors in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Voice of Democracy Essay Contest, placing third at the District level and receiving a $200 award.
Zahra previously earned first place at the local VFW Post level, advancing her audio essay to District competition. Her continued success highlights her ability to thoughtfully reflect on this year’s theme, “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
In recognition of her achievement, Zahra was presented with a certificate naming her “An Outstanding Spokesperson for Freedom.”
The VFW Voice of Democracy program, established in 1947, is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in the nation’s future by providing high school students the opportunity to express their views through recorded essays centered on democratic values and civic responsibility.
Zahra is a student in Brent Wilburn’s Advanced Placement English IV class at Paris High School. Her accomplishment reflects both her dedication and the strong academic foundation provided through Paris ISD.
Paris ISD is incredibly proud of Zahra for representing Wildcat Nation with excellence at both the local and district levels. Her voice, perspective, and commitment to civic ideals exemplify the very best of our students.
