Paris High School Senior Awarded Prestigious Horatio Alger State Scholarship

Paris High School senior Britney Young has been awarded a $10,000 Horatio Alger State Scholarship, a prestigious honor recognizing students who demonstrate perseverance, strong character, and commitment to education despite challenges. Young is one of only 35 students in the state of Texas selected to receive this competitive scholarship.
The Horatio Alger State Scholarship is awarded by the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans and supports students with financial need who have shown determination in overcoming obstacles while maintaining academic success. The scholarship will help Young pursue a bachelor’s degree beginning in Fall 2026.
“I've been awarded a $10,000 state scholarship from the Horatio Alger Association, one of only 35 recipients in the state of Texas, which will help me pursue a Bachelor’s degree starting in Fall 2026,” said Young.
Throughout high school, Young has demonstrated an exceptional work ethic and dedication to her academic goals. She balances a demanding academic schedule that includes Advanced Placement and dual credit courses while maintaining AB Honor Roll status. In addition, she works two jobs — serving as a Shift Lead at Huey’s Coffee and recording local school sporting events for Paris Gameday on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
Young has also made a strong impact through her commitment to service and leadership.
“I’m proud of my involvement in Key Club, where I’ve helped organize and participate in various community service events,” Young said. “I’ve also enjoyed volunteering at events like Paris Pancake Days, helping with the local food pantry, and doing free car washes to support school organizations and their funding goals. Additionally, I’ve participated in events like ringing the bell for Salvation Army, assisting with drop-off at Head Start, and the Easter egg hunt.”
She credits these experiences with shaping her character and future goals.
“These experiences have helped me develop leadership skills and deepened my commitment to serving my community,” Young said.
After graduation, Young plans to attend East Texas A&M University where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
“My plan is to attend East Texas A&M University in Fall 2026 to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree,” Young said. “I’m excited for this next chapter and appreciate the support I’ve received throughout my high school journey.”
Paris ISD is proud of Britney Young’s accomplishments and congratulates her on earning this distinguished scholarship and recognition at the state level.
