Paris Junior High School’s Melanie Burns awarded Golden Apple

Paris Junior High School secretary Melanie Burns has been named Texoma’s Golden Apple Award recipient by KTEN Television and Texoma Chevy Dealers. Burns was surprised with the honor at a school assembly, where she was presented with a $750 check as Texoma’s Golden Apple of the Month.
For more than 33 years, Melanie Burns has been a cornerstone of the Paris Junior High community. Known as the “heartbeat” of the school, she keeps daily operations running seamlessly while showing endless care and compassion for both students and staff.
Though her official title is school registrar, those who know her best say she wears countless hats—attendance clerk, substitute coordinator, counselor, mentor, and friend. Burns’ dedication extends far beyond her job description. She is often the first to offer a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or even a snack to anyone who needs it. Using her own resources, she keeps her office stocked with food, coffee, and essentials for students and teachers alike.
Whether she’s checking in on a student who’s having a tough day, mentoring new staff, or staying late to ensure the next school day runs smoothly, Burns approaches every task with humility and heart.
Her commitment doesn’t stop at the end of the school day. Burns can often be found at athletic events—keeping score, running the clock, or simply cheering on her Wildcats. Her generosity, patience, and unwavering dedication have made her an inspiration to everyone around her.
Paris Junior High Principal Kristi Callihan said, “Melanie embodies what it means to be part of the Wildcat family. Her compassion and commitment make our school—and our community—stronger every single day.”
