Paris High School’s Varsity Winter Guard totes a top-ten national ranking after their intriguing show Fireflies helped it place 7th among teams from forty-two schools in 5 states in the National Southwest Power Regional at the University of North Texas.
That etched a place for them at the Winter Guard International (“WGI”) World Championships in Kentucky next week. The group is ranked 22nd out of 134 schools in their division of the WGI. Team rankings are based on scores received at competitions throughout the year.
Winter guard is an indoor color guard competition performed to recorded music rather than a live band or orchestra. PHS is currently ranked #1 in Class 4A in Texas and in the top 10 in "4A like" schools in America.
Director Jared Cronk said, "I am super proud of these kids and their dedication to hard work and professionalism. This is my second year and it's awe-inspiring to see them grow so rapidly. We will graduate three seniors out of the 22 members of the program which makes it very exciting for future endeavors."
