Paris ISD Future Problem Solvers welcome speaker from Africa

Paris Independent School District welcomed Elangwe Esowe Gregory from the Brightland Christian Academy in Wotutu, Cameroon, Africa, to the District last week.  He was a guest speaker for the Future Problem Solving (FPS) program.  He visited 4th grade Aikin and Justiss Socrates students and Paris High School FPS students.

Gregory discussed many topics and concepts all geared toward the current FPS topic, “Educational Disparities.”

He discussed educational disparities among the genders in Africa which led him to start a school for girls.  Gregory said, "It was noticed that the girls were just as bright in the math and sciences as the boys. I wanted to provide them an opportunity to attend school and learn alongside the boys."

“His first visit to America has been very inspirational and beneficial. It definitely made our FPS topic come to life,” said Socrates teacher Tammy King. “The information shared was enlightening and the students want to start a service project to help with tuition for a girl to attend the Academy for a year.” 

David and Nancy Ballard, local retired teachers, assist Gregory with his efforts in Cameroon and organized the meetings.
