Paris High School AP Scholars set new record

Paris High School students from the combined classes of 2016 and 2017 have set the record for the largest number of AP Scholars in the history of Paris High School. The results of the exams they took in May 2016 have earned an unprecedented 27 AP Scholar Awards.

Among Paris High School’s AP Scholars this year are six members of the Class of 2017. Since the results are from the 2015-2016 academic year, they include 21 AP Scholars who were members of the Class of 2016 and graduated in June. 

Twelve students received the AP Scholar with Honor Award. This award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. They are Evelyn Gulde, Caroline Janes, Mallory Kennedy, Maggie Maxwell, Alexandrea Montellano, Romy Newberry, Omar Palomares, Caitlin Simpson, Angeline Tacuyan, Katie Watson, Erin Wright, and Zoie Young. These students achieved an average score of 3.94.   

Fifteen students received the AP Scholar Award.  This award is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.  Chandler Bawcum, Matthew Cochran, Dixon Grossnickle, Brendan Henry, Mary Hervey, Sara Lancaster, Jesus Morales, Cheyenne Plummer, Mallory Shoemake, Shreya Singh, Jacob Stripland, Lakendra Thomas, Arleigh White, Alexis Willison, and Shelby Wilson.  These students achieved an average score of 3.28. 

Five of the honorees from the Class of 2016 were recognized by the College Board for the second time in as many years. Evelyn Gulde, Maggie Maxwell, Alexandrea Montellano, Caitlin Simpson, and Erin Wright received the AP Scholar Award a year ago.

The College Board’s AP program offers students the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while in high school and to receive college credit or advanced placement for successful performance on the AP exams.  Paris High School currently offers seven AP courses ­– AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, AP English Language & Composition, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Spanish, AP U.S. Government, and AP U.S. History.
