Paris ISD Student Wins Lamar County Spelling Bee

The top sixteen Lamar County spellers competed at the Lamar County Spelling Bee on February 5 and  two Paris ISD students claimed the top three places. 

Paris Junior High School seventh-grader Luke  de La Garza was named champion and Crockett Intermediate sixth grader Nicole Octavio tied with Emma McCarter from Chisum Middle School student for second place. 

Luke advances to the Golden Chick Regional Spelling Bee to be broadcast live from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, on WFAA Channel 8 from The George W. Bush Presidential Center. 

The top two participants will receive all-expenses paid trips to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The Golden Chick Dallas Regional Spelling Bee is open to 4th-8th grade public, private, charter, and home school students within the 350 county Dallas region.
