Paris High School’s cafeteria turned into a life or death situation for one student recently.
When coach Bailey Nelson saw a student choking on a piece of food, he knew what to do. “I knew there was definitely something wrong,” Nelson said. “I saw a student try to help her without success and that’s when I realized it was something that needed to be done immediately,” said Nelson.
Nelson put his arms behind her sternum and successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver to save her life. The whole incident was recorded on the school’s security system.
Superintendent Paul Jones and principal Chris Vaughn recognized Nelson at the School Board meeting last week for his heroism.
Principal Chris Vaughn publicly thanks Coach Bailey Nelson for jumping into action during a life-threatening choking event at Paris High School at the School Board meeting last week.
