Third and fourth graders at Justiss Elementary School are competing in the Learning.com Code-a-Thon this week. Students use Code Monkey to learn basic computer programming and coding which is an important skill for many technology careers.
“Developing computational thinking skills and coding proficiency, as early as elementary school, accelerates students’ progress on the path to success in today’s digital world,” said Learning.com CEO Keith Oelrich. “Our Code-a-Thon contest provides a great way for teachers to engage their students with coding concepts even if they don’t have any prior experience teaching coding.”
Schools all across the country are competing. Students earn points for progressing through the lessons during the week of November 13-17, and for every 100 points earned, each class will receive one entry into the random drawing for 20 Chromebooks.
