Students from Paris Independent School District (ISD) recently celebrated their success in the annual Lamar County Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) Poster and Essay Contest. With creativity and insight, these young minds explored the theme "Home Is Where the Habitat Is." Their impressive work has now advanced to the regional level for further judging.
Essay Contest Winners
Ages 14 to 18 Division
• 1st Place: Hannah Newberry, a senior from Paris High School, earned the top spot with her compelling essay. She was awarded $150 for her achievement.
• 2nd Place: Gavin Avery, also a senior at Paris High School, received $80 for his insightful essay, securing the second position in this division.
13 and Under Division
• 1st Place: Tripp Jones, a talented fourth grader from Aikin Elementary School, captured first place with his engaging essay, earning $80.
• 2nd Place: Zaila Bridges, another exceptional fourth grader from Justiss Elementary, won second place and a prize of $50.
Poster Contest Winners
4th – 6th Grade Contest
• 1st Place: Oliver Estrada, a fourth grader from Justiss Elementary, impressed the judges with his creative poster, winning $80.
• 3rd Place: Josey Hayes, a third grader at Justiss Elementary, secured third place and received $30.
• 4th Place: Aubree Peralta, a sixth grader from Crockett Intermediate, earned fourth place and was awarded $10.
Kindergarten – 3rd Grade Contest
• 1st Place: Paisley Ware, a second grader from Aikin Elementary, took first place and received $50 for her artistic skills.
• 3rd Place: Daisy Matthews, also a second grader at Aikin Elementary, achieved third place and was awarded $20.
These awards highlight the dedication and creativity of Paris ISD students in exploring vital environmental themes. Their hard work and talent have not only brought them recognition at the local level but also paved the way for regional accolades.
