Justiss Elementary recently hosted its annual Family STAAR Night, a delightful event aimed at engaging families in the academic progress of their children. The evening was specifically tailored for 3rd and 4th-grade students and their families.
During the event, students had the opportunity to introduce their parents to Cambium, the online platform used for administrating the STAAR test. This hands-on experience allowed parents to better understand the testing process and the digital tools their children use, ensuring they are well-informed about the resources available to support their child's learning journey.
Teachers conducted personalized sessions with parents and guardians, reviewing each student's academic progress. This provided a valuable opportunity for parents to discuss their child's strengths and areas for improvement directly with educators. Such interactions are crucial for tailoring educational strategies to individual student needs and fostering a supportive learning environment.
To encourage continued learning at home, each student in attendance received a game focused on Math and Reading. These games are designed to be both educational and enjoyable, allowing families to engage in learning together. By incorporating play into education, students can develop a love for learning while strengthening their skills.
After learning about the STAAR test, families gathered for an evening of community and engagement. Lidia Pickerill, the Paris ISD Parent & Family Engagement Coordinator, led the proceedings of the annual Title 1 meeting. This important event serves as a cornerstone for fostering collaboration between the school and families, ensuring that all students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
Family STAAR Night at Justiss Elementary not only strengthens the school-community relationship but also empowers parents to support their children's education effectively.
