Paris High School students placed in the VFW Voice of Democracy competition. Kitty Mathieu won first place and a check for $250 and Caleb Echols won third and a check for $150.
Since 1947, the Voice of Democracy has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ (VFW’s) premier scholarship program. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?
Both students are in Brent Wilburn’s Advanced Placement English IV class. Mr. Wilburn expressed, “The Voice of Democracy competition, organized by our local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) chapter, offers an incredible platform for students to express their thoughts and ideas. This annual contest provides an opportunity for our students to showcase their writing prowess while engaging with themes that explore the core values we hold dear as Americans.”
