Paris ISD Student Wins Statewide Poster Contest

Each year the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts recognize and celebrate individuals that dedicate themselves to the conservation and management of renewable natural resources. These outstanding conservationists were recognized during an awards luncheon on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Loews Hotel and Convention Center in Arlington.

The Texas Conservation Awards Program began in the late 1970s to recognize the state’s conservationists and the vital role they play in managing Texas’ natural resources. The program’s purpose is to acknowledge, recognize, and honor individuals that dedicate their time and efforts to the conservation of renewable natural resources.

The program provides an opportunity for competition and incentives to expand and improve conservation efforts and natural resource development, as well as the wise utilization of renewable natural resources. Categories recognized through the Conservation Awards Program are: Conservation Farmer, Conservation Rancher, Conservation Teacher, Friend of Conservation, Poster Contest, Outstanding Soil and Water Conservation District, Wildlife Conservationist, Junior Essay Contest, and Senior Essay Contest.

"May the Forest Be With You Always" was the topic for the 2024 Poster Contest. Elizabeth Gillem, representing the Lamar Soil and Water Conservation District, won first place in the Junior Division of the Statewide Poster Contest. Elizabeth is the daughter of Rob and Andrea Gillem and is in the 3rd grade at Aikin Elementary School. She is active in her church, loves to read & is involved in her schools Socrates Program. Elizabeth’s poster will advance to the National Association of Conservation Districts Poster Contest in December 2024.

Quick Tip Information

Quick Tip is a support system that allows students to communicate with school administrators. While the district already has many programs to help students deal with challenges such as bullying behaviors, stress, peer pressure, and family problems, Quick Tip helps break the code of silence often experienced by students because it allows them to report concerns to administrators anonymously.

Submit from App
SchoolMessenger Quick Tip app is available for both iOS (iTunes App Store) and Android devices (Google Play). Download SchoolMessenger Quick Tip App. When launching the app for the first time, you will be prompted to enter the school district code. The school district code is paristx.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a crisis line. In cases of emergency, the site will direct students to call 911!
