Paris High School Senior Gavin Avery named Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship

Paris High School Principal Chris Vaughn announced recently that Gavin Avery has been named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Avery is among the nearly 34,000 students nationwide being honored as Commended Students for their exceptional academic promise. Principal Vaughn presented Avery with a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program.

"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. ''These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

Avery is a senior at Paris High School and the son of Scott and Shara Avery of Paris.

Quick Tip Information

Quick Tip is a support system that allows students to communicate with school administrators. While the district already has many programs to help students deal with challenges such as bullying behaviors, stress, peer pressure, and family problems, Quick Tip helps break the code of silence often experienced by students because it allows them to report concerns to administrators anonymously.

Submit from App
SchoolMessenger Quick Tip app is available for both iOS (iTunes App Store) and Android devices (Google Play). Download SchoolMessenger Quick Tip App. When launching the app for the first time, you will be prompted to enter the school district code. The school district code is paristx.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a crisis line. In cases of emergency, the site will direct students to call 911!
