As announced October 19, the superintendents of Paris ISD and North Lamar ISD, Paul Jones and John McCullough, joined forces in a friendly but fierce competitive food drive to aid the efforts of the Kiwanis Club of Paris. The competition ended Friday night at the Cross-Town Showdown football game.
Superintendent Paul Jones said, “This was the first food drive of the school year, and a successful one at that. The final tally was Paris 19,300 and North Lamar 15,727. This food drive will allow more of our Paris families to be served this holiday season.”
The Can the Panthers, Can the Wildcats Food Drive generated over 875 food boxes for the Kiwanis Club of Paris to distribute in Lamar County. Paris and North Lamar Public Information Officers Jeanne Kraft and Carla Coleman led these efforts.
The special trophy presented to Superintendent Jones is compliments of Jerry Williams at Lamar Electric and the Kiwanis Club Community Services Committee, co-chaired by Rudy Kessel and Robert High. Christmas food baskets are just one example of the ways money raised during Kiwanis Pancake Days is returned to the community. Making the trophy presentation is Kiwanis Club President Don Dickerson, who is joined by Brookshire Corporation representative Rocky Dority.
In addition, each district is received a check for $250 to aid in helping students this holiday season.
Families in need are able to access the food boxes through the Salvation Army.
The two school districts would like to thank the members of the community who donated items for this year’s food drive.
