PHS Students Shine Big at the Fort Worth Ag Mechanics Show

Davion Cooper and Colt Ashby recently made their mark in the Fort Worth Ag Mechanics Show by winning 3rd place with their innovative cellular triggered hog trap. The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) Ag Mechanics show is an annual competition held in Fort Worth, which brings together students from 4-H and FFA from across the state to showcase their projects. Participants are required to build a project that falls under one of five categories, which includes Agricultural Machinery & Equipment, Livestock Equipment, Outdoor Recreational & Convenience, Wildlife Equipment, and Trailers, Farm & Ranch Restoration.

Their cellular triggered hog trap gate was entered in the Wildlife Equipment division in the trap and capture device class. After receiving a blue ribbon, they were put in the running to be placed in their class that led to 3rd place.

As a result of their hard work and dedication, the boys received a number of prizes, including a welding hood, gloves, grinding disks, welding rods, and other consumable shop items. These items are all essential for anyone interested in welding or metalworking, and they will undoubtedly come in handy for the boys in the future.

“I am very proud of these two young men,” expressed agriculture mechanics instructor Russell Gibbs. “They worked hard in the shop all year getting things ready for not only this project but all projects we have worked on. I’m extremely happy that all of their hard work paid off. I’m ready to see what they will be able to create next as well as in the future.”

Quick Tip Information

Quick Tip is a support system that allows students to communicate with school administrators. While the district already has many programs to help students deal with challenges such as bullying behaviors, stress, peer pressure, and family problems, Quick Tip helps break the code of silence often experienced by students because it allows them to report concerns to administrators anonymously.

Submit from App
SchoolMessenger Quick Tip app is available for both iOS (iTunes App Store) and Android devices (Google Play). Download SchoolMessenger Quick Tip App. When launching the app for the first time, you will be prompted to enter the school district code. The school district code is paristx.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a crisis line. In cases of emergency, the site will direct students to call 911!
