Steve Gilbert was recently recognized as the Champion of the Year at the Career & Technology Association of Texas (CTAT) Image Awards for Area 3 Career and Technical Education (CTE). Dr. Angela Chadwick, CTE and Secondary Education Director at Paris ISD, submitted his nomination for the award which is given for contributing to the improvement, promotion, development, and progress of CTE.
The recognition comes as a result of Gilbert’s volunteer work on the workforce development initiative through the Lamar County Coalition of Education, Business, and Industry. Gilbert facilitated three roundtable discussions targeting employer needs of Lamar County. He then analyzed the data and authored a comprehensive report, The Voice of Employers: What Employees Must Know & Be Able to Do. The report was distributed to Lamar County stakeholders and to area media outlets.
According to Dr. Chadwick, “Steve Gilbert is a huge supporter of CTE in Lamar County and believes in the value of the programs and their impact on students’ future education, training and career decisions. He understands the critical need for partnerships between business and industry and education to be able to respond to employer workforce needs.”
Gilbert joined The HWH Group in 2014 following four years as director of the Paris Economic Development Corporation. During his career in economic and community development, he has worked with local, state and regional economic development entities as well as city and county officials to effectively position and market their assets and programs to retain and attract new jobs and private capital investment.
