Aikin Students Participate in Worldwide Hour of Code

Fourth grade students at Aikin Elementary School are participating in the worldwide Hour of Code™ this month. The students have attended classes taught by Technology Coordinator Frances Reed and are now familiar with coding.  For the Hour of Code, students choose from tutorials involving characters from movies and video games including Frozen, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Minecraft and Angry Birds.

The Hour of Code™ is organized by Code.org, a public 501c3 non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools and increasing participation by learners of all genders and races. An unprecedented coalition of partners have come together to support this effort — including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the College Board.

The grassroots campaign goal is for tens of millions of students across the globe to try at least one hour of code during December 7-13, 2015, in celebration of Computer Science Education Week.  Early exposure to computer science equips students to be 21st century learners and creators. This campaign is designed to demystify coding so that anyone can learn the basics.

Quick Tip Information

Quick Tip is a support system that allows students to communicate with school administrators. While the district already has many programs to help students deal with challenges such as bullying behaviors, stress, peer pressure, and family problems, Quick Tip helps break the code of silence often experienced by students because it allows them to report concerns to administrators anonymously.

Submit from App
SchoolMessenger Quick Tip app is available for both iOS (iTunes App Store) and Android devices (Google Play). Download SchoolMessenger Quick Tip App. When launching the app for the first time, you will be prompted to enter the school district code. The school district code is paristx.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a crisis line. In cases of emergency, the site will direct students to call 911!
