Althea Dixon

Althea Dixon, Principal of Paris Junior High School, was selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as a Region 8 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the year for 2009-2010. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the twenty regional Education Service Centers in the state. School administrators are chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based on exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. As a Region 8 winner, Dixon is eligible to compete for the state title of the Texas Assistant Principal of the Year.

Dixon has 19 years of experience in education and is currently beginning her 1^st year as principal and member of the leadership team at Paris Junior High School. She spent 5 years as an assistant principal and member of the leadership team at Paris High School. She attended Oklahoma State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master of Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She received school counseling certification and superintendent certification from Texas A&M University - Commerce. She has served as a teacher, coach, counselor, and now as principal since joining Paris ISD in 1996. Mrs. Dixon is married to Kevin Dixon. They have two children, a daughter Paige who is 13 years old, and a son Kobe, 9.

Dixon was nominated for this honor by PHS Principal Gary Preston. She was described as an innovative leader who is constantly looking for ways to improve the school environment. In the letter of nomination, Mr. Preston wrote, "Mrs. Dixon has done so much to improve student behavior, campus culture, and school spirit at Paris High. She epitomizes professionalism in all that she does, and we are fortunate to have her in our learning community."

The regional winners were recognized during the Opening General Session of the annual TASSP Summer Workshop in Austin. They received an award and were recognized in a commemorative booklet entitled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.
