Paris ISD Spanish students perform well at Foreign Language Symposium

Spanish students at Paris High School and Paris Junior High School competed in the 42nd annual North East Texas Organization of Language Educators—NET-OLE—Foreign Languages Symposium at Texas TAMU-Commerce and brought home 62 places.  The group earned the High Point Award and Sweepstakes Award for the second year in a row for the most total points in a field of seventeen schools.  The contest is organized into academic and cultural events according to levels of experience. Students who placed are:

Beginner (1st year)  Memorized Poetry: 1st place Alyssa Tacuyan, 3rd place Carol Starnes. Memorized Prose: 1st place Amber Powell, 3rd place Ceaira Gill. Prepared Speech: 3rd place Josie Cade, 5th place Alyssa Tacuyan. Sight Reading Poetry: 4th place Ceaira Gill, 6th place Icysis Patt. Spelling: 6th place Josie Cade. Verbal Fluency: 3rd place Zaccheus Ellis. Instructional Video: 2nd place Evan de la Garza and Ryan House.

Intermediate (2nd year)  Memorized Poetry: 2nd place Emma Napier, 5th place Makayla Brown. Memorized Prose: 4th place Ansley Downs, 5th place Rachel Young. Prepared Speech: 3rd place Jaylen Smith, 5th place Graham Bain. Sight Reading Poetry: 3rd place Demetric Glover, 5th place Anthony Pierotti. Spelling: 5th place Rhea Tabora. Verbal Fluency: 4th place Adryan McGuire, 6th place Zach Norris.

Advanced (3rd & 4th year) Memorized Poetry: 1st place Reagan Benson, 8th place Reagan Stone. Memorized Prose: 1st place Zain Syed, 6th place Hannah England. Sight Reading Poetry: 1st place Zain Syed, 3rd place Jacob Stripland. Spelling: 1st place Zain Syed, 4th place Zachary de la Garza. Verbal Fluency: 4th place Shelby Wilson, 7th place Lucas Grossnickle. Drama:  2nd Place:  Morial Amin-Allen, Zachary de la Garza, Deagan Dingman, Hannah England, Katy Hall, Alexis Pitcock, Alex Ramirez. Instructional Video: 1st place Garrett Wilson.

Advantaged (5th & 6th year) Memorized Poetry: 2nd place Matthew Cochran, 5th place Romy Newberry. Memorized Prose: 1st place Brendan Henry. Sight Reading Poetry: 1st place Matthew Cochran; 2nd place Dixon Grossnickle. Spelling: 2nd place Shelby Wilson. Spelling: 4th place Codi Clark. Verbal Fluency: 1st place Dixon Grossnickle.

Bilingual/Heritage Memorized Poetry: 3rd place Soyla Torres, 6th place Erica Cole. Memorized Prose: 3rd place Alexandra Hernandez, 5th place Maria Gonzalez. Prepared Speech: 2nd place Paulina Santogo, 5th place Yenifer Farfan. Sight Reading Poetry: 3rd place Alexandra Hernandez, 6th place Bryan Ramirez.  Verbal Fluency: 7th place Axeel Rodriguez, 8th place Monica Silva. Essay: 3rd place Ashley Rodriguez, 4th place Maria Yepiz.
